About this course

Starting from 1 April 2024, it is mandatory for all adult members who newly join the Brigade, regardless of the recruitment channels (such as central recruitment through the Brigade Recruitment Day or direct recruitment through different commands or divisions), to participate in the "New Members Foundation Training Course" (NMFTC). They must enroll in this course within 12 months after their names are confirmed and issued on the monthly Brigade Order. The NMFTC will have a total duration of 84 hours.

 

All new members must attend the entire training program, successfully pass the post-course assessment, and receive a certificate of completion. Only after fulfilling these requirements will they be eligible to continue participating in various voluntary work within the Brigade.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the services provided by St. John Ambulance.
  • Familiarize the roles and responsibilities of a St. John adult member, acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills for different duties and tasks.
  • Gain basic occupational safety and health knowledge relevant to St. John adult members.
  • Learn the foot drill's fundamental commands and movements to promote team spirit and instil a disciplined attitude to enhance team collaboration, communication, and cooperation among members.

Course content and points to note

  1. Adult First Aid Course (30 hours)

  2. AED Certification Course (4 hours) 

  3. Home Nursing Certificaiton Course (12 hours)

  1. Team Building (3 hours)

  2. Introduction to St. John Ambulance (1.5 hours)

  3. Duty practices and skills (2 hours)

  4. Introduction to Ambulance Equipment (4 hours)

  5. Occupational Safety & Health (1.5 hours)

  6. Basic Foot Drill (12 hours)

  1. Parade Protocol (6 hours)

  2. Passing Out Parade (8 hours)

  • The respective commands will coordinate and conduct Part 1 of the training.

  • For Part 2 and Part 3, all participants must achieve 100% attendance.

  • If a participant is excused from any training session within Part 2, they must apply to their respective unit/division. The application should include the necessary supporting documents. The participant must attend remedial sessions to compensate for the missed training.
